Plant Forward
A plant-forward diet is rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Contrary to popular belief, meat, poultry, and fish can be included in this type of diet, but they are not necessarily the “star” of the dish. Incorporating more plant-based foods into your meals improves the health of your body and the planet. At CDS, we try to make it easy for our students to eat more plant-forward in the dining halls.
Plant Forward Stations: Both dining halls offer a Plant Forward station, which is dedicated to vegan foods. At Chase, we have expanded this station and you can often find our dietitian and “Fancy Chef” serving specialty items on Plant Forward Wednesdays.
Vegetarian Icons: Menu items are flagged as vegetarian if they exclude meat, poultry, seafood, or gelatin.
Vegan Icons: Menu items are flagged as vegan if they exclude meat, poultry, seafood, gelatin, dairy, eggs, honey, and vitamin D3.
Customizable Stations: Our made-to-order stations give you the ability to make any entrée vegetarian.
Dairy-Free Milk Alternatives: We offer almond milk and soymilk for anyone avoiding cow’s milk.
Vegetarian Menus: Our salad bars offer a wide variety of vegan and vegetarian proteins. You can always find a few vegetarian or vegan options at our grill, pizza, pasta, and panini stations. We even have a vegan dessert every meal period.
Vegan Menus: We cook with a dairy-free margarine instead of butter when possible and even designate a fryer for vegan items at each dining hall.
Meat “less” Mondays: We recognize and celebrate Meatless Monday(TM), and international campaign to reduce meat consumption by 15% for the good of your body and the planet. Every Monday, we convert some stations into vegetarian stations.
