We Won an A+ Vegan Rating for an A+ School!

At Carolina Dining Services, we pride ourselves on our commitment to not only serving our students exceptional food and service, but also our commitment to sustainability and wellness. That’s why we are excited to announce that we have received an A+ rating on peta2’s Vegan Report Card this year!

Research commonly shows that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables lowers the risk of heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers, and other dietary-related diseases. We make every effort to provide a plant-based menu to better our health while lowering our dependency on natural resources.

Through peta2 questionnaires and rigorous menu review standards, we consistently ranked among the top A-rated schools – and we couldn’t have done it without y’all! Whether it’s from personal beliefs, dietary restrictions, or meat-eaters that want to reduce their meat consumption, all of our hard work at Carolina is paying off for a common goal of reducing our impact on earth.

Some of peta2’s A+ rating criteria that we passed with flying colors includes:

  • Offering at least one vegan entrée at every meal
  • Offering nondairy milk
  • Labeling vegan entrées
  • Labeling vegan desserts
  • Including a vegan member on it’s student advisory board
  • Promoting vegan options
  • Participating in Meatless Mondays
  • Offering an all-vegan station
  • Offering egg/mayo replacements

These changes to our program didn’t happen overnight, and we thank all of our Tar Heels for always providing feedback and suggestions, and appreciate the work of students on our Student Dining Board so that we can continue to grow! This amazing rating is recognition for all of the hard work, extensive collaboration, and dedication that allows us at Carolina to help keep the earth green together.
